The Wildlife Conservation Society (WCS), in partnership with the 
Government of Madagascar created the Makira Natural Park, a 372,000 ha, 
Category II, protected area in northeastern Madagascar, in 2012.
Since 2013, WCS has been appointed by the Ministry of Environment, 
Ecology and Forestry as the delegated manager of the Park and is 
responsible for managing the entire Park according to the terms of
its management contract and in accordance with the Park management plan. 

WCS is currently looking for a motivated, experienced and dynamic 
candidate to assume the role of the Director of the Makira Natural
Park (based in Maroantsetra, Madagascar) to lead and coordinate all WCS 
actions in the the Park.

TASKS
• Lead strategic and operational planning related to the management of 
the Makira
• Supervise technical and budgetary management of the operational 
activities of the Makira PNAT,
including applications for funding
• Lead the development and implementation of monitoring and management 
tools for the Park and
its protection zone;
• Lead the development of all reports and documents related to the 
management of the PNAT
Makira
• Ensure the management and supervision of PNAT Makira staff
• Collaborate with other members of the WCS program team in the planning 
and implementation of
activities in the buffer zone of the Park
• Ensure the development of partnerships and collaboration with local 
and regional partners around
the Park

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
• At least Masters level qualifications in a relevant field (ecology, 
conservation, natural resource
management)
• Demonstrated experience in the technical and financial management of a 
protected area in
Madagascar, Africa or Asia;
• Experience in combating slash and burn agriculture, deforestation, 
poaching and consumption of
bushmeat, and knowledge of the use of SMART or MIST;
• Demonstrated experience in managing and building a team's capacity;
• Good knowledge of key actors in the conservation sector in Madagascar;
• Self-reliance and ability to work in rural and remote areas
• Good writing, communication, negotiation, organization and 
facilitation skills;
• Ability to read, write, and communicate in French, Malagasy, and / or 
English. Knowledge of the third language would be an asset;
