Outreach Notice for Post-doctoral Research Associate in Rapid City, SD Reply due by May 26, 2017 The Rocky Mountain Research Station is outreaching to determine initial interest in a Post-doctoral Research Associate position in community and invasive plant ecology. The duty station of the successful applicant will be in Rapid City, South Dakota where the individual will work closely with the U.S. Forest Service, Rocky Mountain Research Station, Forest and Grassland Research Laboratory and South Dakota State University scientists. The successful applicant will serve as a lead co-investigator on a project funded by the US Forest Service Western Wildland Environmental Threat Assessment Center (WWETAC) analyzing the life history traits of terrestrial herbaceous weeds and their response to management treatments using a WWETAC database. Participation on additional projects may be possible depending on the skill set of the successful applicant and funding. These projects would potentially include a summary on the effect of prairie dogs on grassland vegetation and developing a near-real time phenology tool for use on the National Grasslands. This position would provide excellent experience working at the interface of science and management of private and public lands. Strong writing skills and quantitative skills are required. Preference will be given to applicants with a PhD, experience with multi-variate statistics used in community analyses and/or categorical analysis, and a demonstrated ability of using statistical analysis packages in SAS, R, and/or SigmaPlot (or equivalent such as SPSS). The position is a full time term position supported by a grant, currently funded for 6-8 months, but could be extended depending on availability of funding. Salary is commensurate with training and experience. The starting date for the position is flexible and can begin in June 2017 but must begin no later than October 2017.
