Hello all-

After many years in the field of Rangeland and forest ecology and
entomology, I find myself frustrated, bored and not doing the things that I
want to do. I briefly worked in advocacy during the election and have found
that I am most fulfilled when involved in community projects, and although
I am good at research, it's not what I'm passionate about. I care more
about how it translates to action.

I would like to transition out of Rangeland health and into a career that
involves economics, communities at-risk because of climate change, and
policy. I've spent a lot of time traveling and talking to people all over
Latin and North America, and I want to be able to use my ability to
understand and communicate science to allow these communities to empower
themselves. I realize that this is a bit of a stretch, but I am hoping
that someone out there knows about how to make this happen. I don't even
know exactly what kind of job fits my needs or where to begin.

Some background - I have a B.S. in Environmental Science, and focused on
technical writing and taxonomy. I worked for the USFS as a botanist and
range technician in Moab for 2 seasons. I was a lead environmental educator
for Rocky Mountain Biological Laboratory for 3 seasons while I got my
masters in Environmental Management, specializing in integrated land
management. I completed my thesis project examining the affects of riparian
restoration on arthropod abundance and diversity in Gunnison Sage Grouse
habitat one year ago. I currently work as the Assessment, Inventory and
Management Coordinator and Data Specialist with a nonprofit in Northern
Nevada.

If anyone has some advice as to who to talk to, what organizations I should
check out or any books I should read, please let me know.

Thanks

Samm
