The Everglades Systems Assessment Section of the South Florida Water Management District in West Palm Beach, FL seeks a hydrologist to join a multi-disciplinary team assessing the effectiveness of restoration activities on Everglades ecosystem recovery. The position will play a major role in hydrologic field and data analyses for several large-scale projects, including the Loxahatchee Landscape Assessment (LILA) Project, the Decompartmentalization Project (DPM), and Adaptive and Active Marsh Improvement Projects throughout the entire Everglades landscape.
Position Description - This position has a large field component and the successful candidate should have field experience in aquatic/wetland hydrology, with an emphasis and desire to link hydrology to ecosystem structure and function. Specifically, this position will be responsible for: 1) flow measurement and characterization using acoustic Doppler velocity (ADV) meters, both static and handheld 2); assessing stage changes by deploying and collecting water depth data loggers, including data management and analysis; 3) using a combination of field measurements, field experiments and computer modeling to understand the effect of vegetation on velocity and patterns; 4) assessing groundwater and surface water interactions and 5); integrating hydrologic data with other metrics to evaluate sediment movement and distributions in the Everglades Employment Guidelines for Hydrologist 3 - Typically has a Bachelor's degree (Master's preferred) in hydrology, ecohydrology, or related subject with at least two years relevant experience. Candidates should have training and experience with ADV meters (deployment, QA/QC and analysis), stage recorders, and fluid mechanics.
