Hello Ecologers!

I'm hoping you can help me with advice regarding marine research/aid. I have
the opening to travel
from January to mid-April and aim to work with marine fisheries research in a
different part of the
world. It could be with aquaculture, large scale fisheries, community
fisheries, or anything else related.
I currently work with shellfish on Cape Cod, making the Atlantic ocean ideal:
Mexico, Central, or South
America.

I thought an opportunity would be effortless to find but most organizations
have high volunteer fees
and it's hard to feel confident about what I am signing up for. I am looking
for an opportunity that is
low cost or break-even, where I would stay in one community and create
relationships with its
members and fishermen. Pay would be fantastic but from what I've sifted through
that seems out of
reach.

For my credentials: I have a B.S. in biology, both marine lab and field
research experience, and am a
strong swimmer. I know very little spanish but would really like to become more
conversational. And,
most importantly, I would love to help and learn from the fishers in any
community and hope to create
a bond where I may even go back to the area and continue to work in years to
come.

I would love to hear about any organizations or groups that you think may be a
good fit. I am grateful
for any and all suggestions and will take as many as you can send me and any
advice you can give!

Thank you in advance!
Dana
