Lab Manager for Correa Lab at Rice University

The Correa Lab at Rice University (http://www.owlnet.rice.edu/~ac53 
<http://www.owlnet.rice.edu/~ac53>) is looking for a full-time Lab Manager. 
This person will be responsible for day-to-day tasks of managing the lab such 
as equipment ordering and maintenance, chemical inventory, sample processing, 
data entry/analysis, planning field research expeditions, maintaining algal 
cultures, etc. The job will also entail extensive fieldwork and microbial 
ecology research on coral reefs (and other coastal ecosystems) in the 
Indo-Pacific and the Gulf of Mexico. Applicants should have a BS/BA or MS in 
microbiology, ecology & evolution, or marine science. Significant experience 
working in a molecular laboratory (e.g., sterile technique, DNA or RNA 
extractions, PCR optimization) is required; skills in virology, real-time PCR 
and bioinformatics analysis are preferred. Previous field research experience 
on SCUBA, experience working in Mo’orea (French Polynesia) and on coral reefs, 
AAUS qualification, and familiarity with the operation and trailering of small 
boats are all preferred. The position is for a one-year appointment (with 
opportunity for a second based on performance) and will be hourly with 
benefits. Start date is negotiable, but the position is available immediately.
