*5-Year, Senior Post-doctoral fellowship (tenure track)*

*Location: Spain*

*Application Deadline 13 December 2017* Initial expression of interest

*Required Material: CV and maximum 1-page research statement*

*Send materials to: [email protected]*

*Field of research*: Flexible--Molecular ecology, evolutionary ecology,
population genomics, macro-evolutionary models, etc.

I seek to sponsor a competitive applicant for a Ramon y Cajal 5-year senior
post-doctoral fellowship, to be conducted at the University of the Basque
Country (Universidad del País Vasco, UPV). This person should have research
interests in one or more of the following fields: evolutionary ecology,
population genomics of non-model organisms, macro-evolutionary models, or
another field within evolutionary biology, broadly defined (for example,
phylogeography, selection, adaptation to environmental change, computational
evolutionary ecology). The person should contribute to the development of
research using sequence and/or SNP data, and undertake a computational
approach (e.g., bioinformatics pipelines, simulation of population
processes, coalescent or phylogenetic modeling, etc.). For sponsorship
through the UPV Department of Plant Biology and Ecology, the proposed
research direction should have an empirical component, potentially
incorporating data on functional or life-history traits, (bio)geographic
distribution, behavior, or other evolutionarily-relevant characteristics.
Work on a plant system is not required. The person is expected to (1) help
develop and use a newly-equipped laboratory for molecular (DNA/RNA) work in
the recently opened María Goyri research building of the UPV and (2) take
advantage of currently underused computational facilities. The person would
have access to support from a genomics facility (SGIker), also in the María
Goyri building, and contribute to the growing community of researchers with
an evolutionary perspective at the UPV.

Gross salary is €31,600/year, which is sufficient to live in Bilbao. The
position comes with €40,000 research start-up allowance. Willingness to seek
additional funding and mentor research students is assumed.

This position is tracked to result in a permanent position at the host
institution.

Persons with a 33% disability or greater are especially encouraged to apply.

Requirements: 1. Have received the Ph.D. between 01.01.2007 and 31.12.2014
(for persons with disabilities: 01.01.2004 to 31.12.2012); 2. if currently
holder of a MINECO- financed post-doc, have entered the second year by
1.6.2017; 3. have completed at least 24 months of residence in a research
center other than the UPV by the beginning date of the contract (for people
previously associated with the UPV). 4. Evidence of proficient English and
publication. Basic (>=A2) Spanish would be helpful for application and
administrative tasks but is not required.

*Final research proposals can be written in English*

The portal is [here](https://goo.gl/GHdyH8).

*Applicants do not need to be Spanish citizens*

The successful applicant will enter a trajectory for a permanent position at
the host institution, in this case the University of the Basque Country.
Selection depends on evaluation by both the UPV and the Spanish ministry
(MINECO).

Deadline for declaring interest to me: ASAP.

Initial submission (by me) of a statement of interest to the UPV, which can
specify up to three candidates, is due 13.12.2017. Final date for proposal
and application submission by the applicant to the relevant Spanish ministry
(MINECO) is 16.01.2018.

For your initial expression of interest to me, please send a full
CV/publication list, and short statement of future research interests on 1
single-spaced page (12pt type, 2.5cm margins) or less.
