The Natural Wealth of Nations
David Roodman, 1998

This is yet another book that says our economic systems are
not sustainable and suggests we view wealth differently.
The value of nature and the environment is stressed.

The Invisible Pyramid
Loren Eiseley, 1970

This is an old book which says people are tied to the
natural world and this earth. When the natural world is
destroyed we die with it. Let's see.... that message is
now 20 years old and still isn't well understood.

Beyond the American Dream.

I mentioned this book earlier and have some additional
thoughts. It is a good book but the conclusion seems too
narrow. Basically the book said the current American dream
is to climb to the top of the heap through competition. It
proposes that life long learning is a better dream.

I think others have said it better. They said we need to
form a better balance between "having" and "being". The
  shift would look like this:

Having a degree --> Being educated (an ongoing process)
Having wealth --> Being wealthy (wealth is partially attitude)
Buying Happiness --> Being happy through knowledge, etc.
Owning the land --> Being part of nature.
