Hi, Frank.
I'll ask my husband if he has the specific info about On-Site Roofing. I
think it is a family business and I know it is in rural Washington. I
really like the product, which they manufacture using special machinery.
Don't know if there are other companies making this particular kind of
roofing. Do know there are buildings with their roofs in Alaska, but don't
know the geographical boundaries of where On-Site will ship. For me, one
of the plusses is that the company is relatively nearby. Where are you?
Sorry I can't help you out with info about the actual water collection
process. I was searching for info on hooking up our system when we moved.
Also, our situation was a little different because we had a pre-existing
cistern in place and merely wanted to re-commission it. Yes, we were in a
densely populated urban area, but when the house was built in 1900, it was
in a rural area and had not yet acquired such "improvements" as indoor
plumbing. Legally, I would have only been able to use the water for
irrigation because the city requires the use of city-supplied water inside
the house. But with an annual three month drought, irrigation would have
saved me a lot of water and would have kept a lot of nasty chlorine out of
the garden. I can't believe chlorine is good for beneficial soil bacteria.
It also seemed to have a negative effect on the fungi.
A cistern is probably not practical where I now live. Even so, when we
need to replace the shingle roof on our "new" house (this one was built in
1912), I want to switch to another metal roof from On-Site. Even if we
don't use it for water collection, it is an attractive, durable, recyclable
roof and I like it much better than shingles.

Thanks for sharing your experiences on metal roofing. It reinforces my
original rationales. he he.
Your system sounds very interesting...and perhaps a higher quality or look
than the ones I have been considering. Can you tell me more about On Site
Roofing? Are they nation wide? What does it cost per square? Do they have
an
800 number, web site?
Could you also let me have the details on your rain water collection
system?
What kind of filters you are using, brands, costs? Do you have a
cistern...what kind, cost, is it buried? How often do you have to, clean
it?
How often must filters be replaced? cost?
Sorry to bother you...but I'm trying to have such a system designed into
the
new house. Do you have to use chemicals to treat the water too...which
ones,
how often, and what do they cost? Do you have your water tested? How did
it
go?
Any other comments, suggestions from you or the list would be much
appreciated.
best to all. Frank
Thanks.
