For the last few years i've been mulching with seedy
grass and wonder if this helps the soil? It does encourage
some late spring weeds but they appear just when it is time
to mulch and get smothered.
Probably each garden is different and so are the answers.

I'd also be interested in hearing about the motivations you found behind
the responses and benefits you mentions in the list.

True, i didn't connect the above list with motivations. The question
was: are we motivated by fear to solve world problems or self interest.
We probably have some of both at various times. What i found
interesting in my table of benefit's is that the benefit goes
away when fear is involved. With fear we don't have confidence
in the future and our interest in cost savings or long term
happiness shifts towards immediate survival.
Moving on to another topic. Your definitions of sustainability
got me searching for Mollison's statements about energy being
at the heart of sustainability. I didn't find it and now wonder
if cultural sustainability can be defined through energy.
During my search i also found an article by Skye (Pc activist #39)
on education. A quote from that article:
Teaching is not about a one-way dialogue, but about
creating a meaningful, multi-dimensional communication.
I like that...
