Some Water Conservation Projects to consider
1. Gutters and a rain barrel or temporary pond for
winter rains.
2. Install a low flush toilet or composting toilet.
3. Install a grey water system and integrate
with temporary pond. For those who don't
enjoy experimentation kits are available.
The typical American family uses 260 gallons of water
each day. Heating water costs 10-40 dollars a month
and most of this heat is lost while water sits in a tank.
A simple timer for electric water heaters can cut this
cost in half.
Flushing after urinating uses many gallons of water and
prevents natural recycling of nutriments. There are
many ways to utilize this resource and low flush urinals
can be installed.
The ultimate water saver is a composting toilet. When
we built our house they were fairly rare and expensive.
Today there are many brands available: Sun-Mar, ecotech,
Clivus Multrum, Storburn.
