The book Eco-Renovation has been around for awhile
and was revised in 1999. It reads like a scattering
of ideas and thoughts which i find useful if one
is brainstorming for ideas. The book is organized
like this:

  Space
  Energy
  Health
  Materials
  Further Information

Space - This sections is mostly about space conservation
and organization. It encourages us to look at needs rather
than convention. It also talks about opening up rooms and
even touches on the role of a garden area. It suggests
the following actions:

 1. Review each room in a house and record how it is
used. Then, deliberately look for ways to better
    use the space.

 2. Look at the impacts of opening up areas and doubling
or dividing areas for different uses.

 3. Look for dead space that is not used. Record it as
    a resource to be exploited.

 4. Get opinions of others about space usage.

Another set of suggestions were presented for space surrounding
the house. These ideas are somewhat like the Permaculture
zone concept but does not go into as much depth. My personal
preference is to lean towards Permaculture's philosophy of space
usage and use this chapter for additional ideas.
