As we commemorate - whatever our personal credos, the date on the official calendars is the same - the 2002nd, 3rd or 4th birthday of a man who may or may not have lived but who millions believe died for his fellow human beings whether or not he had ever met them in the flesh - can we try and make his, and our, lives (whether or not we exist, maybe I'm just a work of someone's imagination too) worthwhile by moving a little way off our personal mountain tops above the flood to reach a hand to our brothers in the water. Apart from anything else - if we leave him to drown, when there is only the mountain top left maybe his friends will decide they want it - and they may have more guns. As the light returns to this hemisphere perhaps we can use it to look just a little bit harder at our place in the world at large kathryn
