Gene, that sounds like the same plant and makes me grumble at catalogs
who never mention the disadvantages of plants. Oh well, truth
and objectivity isn't expected in advertising and most catalogs
are a form of advertising. I think when i'm made king the first
act would be a truth in advertising law.

I've been thinking about ways plants fit into our lives and
individual responsibility. It is interesting that the 8
steps Wendell Berry suggested to save the world are things
individuals can work on and many are not things for political
activists. This is another myth that we seem to accept
about making change. Change someone else but don't look
closely at our own life. Anyway, back to plants. The
Permaculture zone concept gives some guidelines about where
plants fit. The first three zones around house
are for functional plants and the native diversity doesn't
become a big factor till zone 5. This works for us
rural residents but does not fit very well in urban
permaculture. Or.. maybe it fits but current Pc authors
don't know how to deal with urban zones. Probably, the latter.
