Many studies now suggest that "soft" plastics have potential problems. The problem seems to be di-2-ethylhexyl phthalate and young boys. If they are exposed at the right time they are not able to reproduce in later life. This is reported in Sept. 2000 issue of Science News. I've read about out-gassing problems in other plastics and these are also related to soft plastics. Is this a serious problem? Who knows. I plan to avoid soft plastics if other choices are available. jeff
