The Autumn 2000 issue of Orion Afield magazine
had some quotes from the book "legacy of Luna".
The book is about Julia Hill who spent two years
in a tree to protect if from logging. If
you are curious why anyone would do this, here
is the answer:

"I knew that if i didn't find a way to deal
with my anger and hate.. I would be swallowed up
in the fear, sadness, and frustration..."

In other words, tree sitting was a personal attempt to focus
on love rather than negative feelings.

"Tree-sitting is a last resort. When you see someone
in a tree trying to protect it, you know that every level
   of our society has failed"
