Has anyone eaten or grown skirret? I'm
not sure if it is worth trying or not.
Here is a short description.
Skirret is a native American plant that was popular in the
1700. The roots taste similar to parsley and salsify with
a sweet taste. It is a hardy perennial with feathery
leaves. The roots are harvested in fall or winter.
Propagation by seed is difficult but root cuttings are
dependable starts. The early gardeners kept perennial beds
of skirret and traded starts. Today, skirret is rare.
Please forward this request to any list or people who might
know more. I'm temperately not subscribed to any gardening
lists so would appreciate forwarding responses back here
(ecopath).
Thanks, jeff
