One can walk or bicycle rather than using an oil-consuming vehicle. One can
eat lower on the food chain, less meat, more veggies, fruits and grains.
The Internet allows research of those corporations that supply our various
needs. One can become informed of the practices of food purveyors and
reward those that produce and buy from sustainable agriculture sources by
buying their products rather than the products of, say, Archer Daniels
Midland. One can buy products that are produced nearby rather than shipped
long distances. One can grow many food plants in containers on balconies,
stairs, window sills and boxes, plus rooftops. One can both acquire and
donate used clothing. One can use clothing, windows and fans to lessen use
of heaters and coolers. No matter where one lives, one spends money. How
that money is spent can be a powerful vote for ecological sustainability.
