Why Garden?

According to the book "Organic Living" gardening
provides these benefits:

 1. Respects the environment
 2. Produces healthy food
 3. Encourages wildlife
 4. Recycles waste
 5. Reduces pollution
 6. Builds on traditional gardening
    practices
 7. Embraces new technology where appropriate
 8. Makes use of local resources

My list would be a little different
and look like this:

 1. Local gardening is a good place for
    building local community
 2. Saves energy.
 3. Empowers people to be self reliant and
    that add to cultural resilience.
 4. Pollution (waste) becomes a resource and produces
    food rather than liability.
 5. Gardening increase both physical and
    mental health.
 6. Gardening can save money.
 7. A Diversity of wildlife, plants, and
people can find niches within gardening
    and coexist.

All the above comments apply to organic gardens and
to some extent other gardens.
