According to the book "Green Guide to Herb Gardening"
the following herbs are some of the easiest and most
versatile herbs:
basil, calendula, chamomile, chives, garlic
lemon balm, mint, oregano, parsley, thyme
Are these really easy and poplar herbs? Only if you
live in a temperate climate zone and find those
herbs useful. To me they seem a very small selection
of plants popular in western cultures. Then, we get into
the issue of: what is a herb? The word "herb" is very
general and doesn't have a clear definition. So, the
way to approach our "best herb" list might be to explore
in the following areas:
1. local plants that grow wild.
2. our personal preferences and tastes
3. foods from other cultures that have a
similar climate.
My point is this: We live in a world of generalities
and people giving us conclusions. If we accept these
ideas it greatly diminishes our world. Others might
argue that it reduces confusion and saves us time
but i think we need to explore more and open up to
life. Life is complex and exploring can be viewed as
the ultimate adventure. Why not open up our awareness
and examine all the daily choices that others make for
us. We might add some adventure to life.
