I think both are needed. Models reflect how we think while text and
language are how we communicate. Everyone has their own unique way of
thinking but share a language to communicate. So a simple mode that is not
too complex lets a group "look" at a process. I find in an organization
it is good to have a common modeling template to help in the education
process. Something to focus in on. A model cannot replace language. A
large complex model usually does end up in the waste bin of everyone
except its creator.
When a person or standards body says this model is... What the are saying
is you must think like this. We have perfected the way to think and this
is it. If some one challenges the model the person or standards body
goes back to the drawing board and etc..
The improper use of a tool is worse than no tool at all. ( in most cases)
It is good to have many tools.
