Implementing XML:

X 416.19   Management 2.4 units

This course is designed for  the implementation of XML in at least three areas: as a superset of HTML, as an  alternative or augmentation to EDI,
and as an option for inter- and  intra-application document or file exchanges. Participants are required to complete case studies of various XML
applications in these areas and to  examine and compare legacy and next-generation systems, as well as explore  various options for exchanging documents and files. Other topics  include basics of EBNF, HTML and EDI; the components of XML; how to create and  validate XML using DTD and Schema; presenting XML
utilizing CSS and  XSL; formalizing XML; the use and roles of parsers, editors, translators, and  stylesheet processors and APIs (DOM and SAX); integrating XML  applications with various applications and EC systems; the use of XPath, XSLT,  XPointer, XLink, XQuery, etc.; short-term and long-term issues in XML  implementations; and XML resources. Sample projects: Commerce One, Ariba and  others. Prerequisite: Basic knowledge of SGML or HTML or EDI, or  consent of instructor.

DURATION: 3 days (24 hours)
FACILITIES:  room for case studies; 3 overhead projectors, wallspace for about 40 charts,  computer and projector with BIZTALK and Tamino.

COURSE  TITLE: Implementing Advanced XML Applications

The course is focused on  the interoperability and integration of the following applications: purchasing,  AP/AR, logistics and financial; utilities; healthcare; desktop;  manufacturing; document management; directory services; mobile/wireless and  others. Among others, representative reference points include: on EC  platforms - BIZtalk from Microsoft, Tamino from Software AG and others; on  standards - SGML, XML, XHTML, HTML, EDI, HL7 and others; on business  models - ebXML, RosettaNet, PIPE and others; on industry models - B2B, B2C, B2G,  C2G and G2G. Pre-requisite: successful completion of Implementing XML (X  416.19) within the last 6 months prior to taking this course, or consent of  instructor.

DURATION: 2 days (16 hours)
