EDI Is Here To Stay
The Internet isn't going to kill EDI anytime soon, a new study says.
The future of electronic data interchange systems, proprietary technology
now used by thousands of companies to transmit orders to trading partners,
is being questioned as companies begin to migrate more of their processes to
the Internet.
A newly released study by Jupiter Research suggests that EDI will remain an
important part of that movement as long as the technology is coupled with
open Internet standards.
The net result, said Jupiter Research analyst Mary Cicalese, will be a more
"mature" version of EDI, allowing EDI-equipped companies to mesh their
current systems with Web-enabled online transactions. --Chuck Moozakis
