EDI-L,
A while back, I made a post to the list entitled "Dial-up access with
Caterpillar Tractor Company"
(http://www.mail-archive.com/[email protected]/msg02732.html).
According to individuals at Caterpillar, some of the information I relayed
in this post was incorrect and it contained confidential information. As
such, they have asked me to delete the post from the list.

According to the EDI-L list owner and the group responsible for archiving
the postings, it is not possible to delete messages from the archive
(http://www.mail-archive.com/faq.html#delete).

So, as a result, I am posting this "retraction".

I apologize if I upset or offended anyone by posting this question to the
list.
In my mind, I was simply relaying what I had been told by Caterpillar EDI
Support: 1) currently, dial-up access is the only option available to me,
and 2) Caterpillar is going through the process of providing their trading
partners with non dial-up access options.

I did not see this, nor intend to portray this, as a negative situation.
In fact, I was very excited about it. Clearly, Caterpillar is making great
strides in providing their trading partners with new alternatives to
dial-up access. They see the changes that are taking place in the
EDI/eCommerce world and are moving forward to replace older more limited
systems with current more robust ones.
As I stated in the original post, I saw this as a very POSITIVE thing.

Regarding the information contained in the original post, I cannot say
whether all, some, or none of it is correct or not. I was lead to believe
it was correct, since multiple CAT EDI Support persons gave me this
information. My intension in making the post was to make other Caterpillar
trading partners aware of the great news and to ask others for their own
experiences with this change--(as is usually the purpose of most postings
on the list).

Regarding the confidentiality of the information contained in the original
post:
I can understand that mentioning specific vendors and describing the
various solutions that were being discussed could be construed as
"confidential" information. However, it didn't cross my mind as being
"confidential" since several EDI Support persons at Caterpillar told me the
same information on different occasions. If this is "confidential"
information, then perhaps this shouldn't have been relayed to me.
Regardless, the perception by Caterpillar is that this information should
not have been posted?
...so for that I apologize.

Again, my only intension was to share good news and solicit feedback from
fellow trading partners.
I extend my apologies to anyone finding this posting to be something other
than that.

As I stated to Caterpillar representatives?from this point forward, I shall
make no more postings to the EDI-L list that name Caterpillar specifically
or relay information that pertains specifically to Caterpillar.
