One of my clients takes in '837's every day from about 30 providers. They
also take in NSF 3.0 (professional) and NSF 6.0 (institutional), plus a
proprietary-format electronic dental claim. Total claims over 5
million/year. About 5% are are ANSI X.12, the other 95% in these 'flat' file
formats. (Hello, HIPAA!!!).

They also send 837 crossovers to a couple of secondary payers. (I wrote that
system myself). These go a couple times a week, so those secondary payers are
also obviously accepting them.

So, was there a question about data format here, or was this just a question
to see if all the ANSI EDI software vendors were just joshin' you about the
use of 837s?
