Thank you Dave for your input. I purpose of this
translator will be to create maps to generate a flat
file input/output. The current EDI process creates a
flat file that is run through a powerful interface
program which loads all the databases automatically.
We need to replicate the current flate file output to
utilize the existing interface programs. With this
process my client is able to maintain one version per
transaction for all their 80 plus trading partners.
The interface program is the real brains behind the
integration. As long as the same flat file is
created, the EDI software will translate the EDI file
into or out of a designated flat file layout.
I am really looking for a translator that will be an
excellent mapping tool, exceptional Trading Partner
manager, Audit the traffic in a database structure so
we are able to create custom reporting, has a version
migration tool, supplies upgrades to all of our
standards yearly, excellent customer support with
human beings anwering the phone, works with the
current communication (frame relay/FTP)and many other
details that have been identified as a software
requirement.
One of the concerns I do have is auditing the process
from the Translator environment to the HP. Controls
will need to be in place. Currently, all processing
of the EDI translation and the data integration is
contained within the HP environment.
As you are aware, a migration from an HP to another
platform is a major undertaking for a corporation.
Unfortunately, my client is unable to wait for a
platform decision before we select the new EDI
software. Thus, I must select a solution that is
non-platform dependent. We need to avoid purchasing a
solution for the current HP just to migrate to a new
EDI solution once the new platform has been
determined.
Any wisdom you can offer to address any negative
situations I may be heading into would be appreciated.
Thank you again .
