Well, sure, but because the business usage of the various segments and elements
varies from partner to partner, you'd end up either with various flat files, or
if you had a 'generic' flat file, within that file what appears in record "PO1"
field 5 may mean different things depending on the partner. I either case, your
output is not terribly useful for integration purposes.

Sorry, Bhushan, but tailoring maps to fit the partner is an integral part of the
business support for ANSI and EDIFACT EDI. (Also true for XML, although the
marketing types don't like to admit it).
