The only reason you need a Yahoo ID is to access the web-based functions of
the group, which are many and which may be used at the discretion of the
list-owner. This includes things like a calendar, the message archive, a
file store and some other goodies.
When you sign up for a Yahoo ID, you can "connect" an email address to this
ID for the purpose of establishing your membership in a list, so you
technically don't need a Yahoo mail ID as well.
If you want to do nothing more than what you did on EDI-L, however, Ron's
instructions are accurate.
