Francis, did you ask the wrong question of DISA? Why ever would they be interested in having you resell the X12 "electronic specifications"? These, after all, are just a collection of comma-delimited files. And they are fairly hard to manipulate - and are sometimes replete with errors.
Why didn't you simply buy the table data with the intention of building a value-add product, like a translator? DISA's fairly generous license allows you to pretty much do anything with the EDI standards in a value-added product - other than competing directly with DISA by reselling the table data or formatting the standards in a way to detract from sales of their PDFs and CDs. By the way, the world doesn't need yet another EDI translator. Does it? Stick to XML and include all the well-known e-business standards (e.g., OASIS UBL, CIDX Chem eStandards, EAN.UCC, and so on). They informed me that (at that time) they never did that. I was curious about this since I know that at least Edifecs (and presumably many other companies) provide complete version of the X12 specifications to their customers (presumably as part of their product offering); this seemed to contradict the license terms on which DISA offers the specifications. The DISA guy I talked to seemed surprised by this. Any comments on this? Also, I'm interested in being able to import EDI specifications into my tool. It seems that I must support at least gXML 1.0 and SEF, but I would like to support the DISA/X12 formats directly so that you can import an entire version from their specifications. Would anyone want this sort of thing? Are there any other specification formats for EDI that I'm missing? Thanks, Francis ------------------------ Yahoo!
