We have had 2-3 trading partners complain to us recently about
"incorrect UPC numbers" on documents back to them. Inspection reveals
they have changed the UPC value they send to us (which we don't
generally use) by left-padding it with 00 to a width of 14 characters.
We don't send this value back to them, we continue to send our usual 12
digit UPC, and that causes the discrepancy. The change to using the 14
digit GTIN is understandable, the quick fix from UPC to GTIN is
acceptable, but they continue to qualify it in the PO1 segment with the
UP qualifier even though what they are sending is no longer a UPC
number. Also, this is recorded on their "vendor scorecard" as a UPC
issue on our end!

The purpose of moving to GTINs is to remove confusion about product
identification, not increase it! I guess some still don't quite get
this UCCNet thing.
