The amount of data that's going to be generated from RFID is going to be
voluminous. I, for one, don't want to send it through a VAN and pay per
kilo-character. The RFID reads coming from a retailer will have to be
communicated outside of the normal VAN traffic.

Subject: [EDI-L] RFID and VANS

Hello all,

I wanted to get the communities opinions on the impact of the coming
RFID
tag incorporation to business processes.

I would guess that the primary integration hurdle that will be facing
RFID
implementations will be between the RFID readers and an Organization's
ERP
system. I wonder though what role VANs will play, if any, in a
companies
RFID solution. For some implementations would it be advantageous to
transmit data directly to a VAN and not an ERP system? I have seen some
856
documents that were not generated by the creator of the goods to be
shipped
but by third party warehouses , shippers and such.

Any thoughts, opinions?

Thank you,

Chris Burns
