I was being somewhat facetious. Using the buzzwords to draw comparisons
between old and new, borrowed and blue. My apologies for the confusion.

What we *do* have is a mix of old technologies and new, and I'm not privy to
(nor could I expound much on) the new technologies that are being used.
What I *do* know is that when I get outage reports, it's always from these
new systems which *do* use XML technologies, as opposed to the old, stodgy,
un-gussied-up Gentran and COBOL and JCL which just takes a lickin' -- and
keeps on tickin'.

Which was the point that I was trying to make -- if it's stupid and it
works, it's not stupid.

There *is* a group that is tasked with examining these new technologies and
implementing where appropriate and business needs dictate. This group
exists on a corporate level and not an operating company level -- standards
like this get pushed to us from "on high." If an effort to look at UBL (or
similar message standards and models) is taking place, it is in the
embryonic stage and we won't see it in the Consumer Companies for a good
long while. And then we will only implement it if the value proposition is
there.

It is true that I'm responsible for many many dollars of sales with our EDI
systems, so working correctly is of prime consideration to me. :)
