Doug's point is a good one re a VAN's customers perhaps not being enthusiastic. And of course, no, XML, doesn't solve this problem at all....nor is it intended to solve this problem. OTH, the ebXML specifications do address the need. Even though core components, etc. has been discussed, what has not is the CPP/A (collaborative partner profile and agreement), which is intended to provide sufficient trading partner details such that two trading partners can electronically reach agreement on what, when, etc. but the ebXML registry provides the pointers to the details. My good friend, William Kammerer, is much more into the details of this than I. Perhaps he can elaborate a bit. Without reading all the emails, I would suggest that our customers would not be too happy if we posted their name and phone number to a public list. If William would like to start a list and companies that are interested can post contacts, that is a start. However, the problem is not starting the list, but maintaining the list. And won't XML solve this problem? ;-) You can just send it and everything will be immediately understood by the receiver.
