Well, for a start, the original question does not actually specify what
the problems are. The responses that Richard and I have posted are
attempting to be generic, but at the same time based on our experiences
(I'm speaking for myself here, but hey, I'm guessing Richard would
agree...). Your examples are specific instances of possible causes that
we've already listed.

Syncronizing data fixes part number errors (they ordered part number
'ABO', and we don't have that in our catalogue - hey we have a 'ABD' -
maybe that's what they wanted. Call them to see. The order gets fixed on
the supplier side - but the original purchase order still has the
*wrong* part number and won't match). It also addresses wrong units of
measure (the customer sends an order that uses UPC as the part number,
and the unit of measure should be a single retail box such as a can of
dog food; but the unit of measure sent is BX - box. What do you do?
Divide the quantity by whatever fits in a box? Send lots of boxes?
Whatever you do the invoice probably won't match).

One company I worked with syncronized catalogues with a key supplier.
Before the syncronization almost every purchase order sent required
correction, and 1 to 3 days of lead time were used up waiting for
corrections. Not too surprisingly orders often arrived late - not a good
thing in retail. When the supplier sent the invoices every invoice
required a full day's effort doing a manual reconciliation. After the
syncronization 99% of purchase orders and 100% of invoices were
processed without error. We changed nothing else - just syncronized
catalogues.

How does data sync address this issue? This is more of "what line on
the PO matches to what line
on the Invoice", and "Howcome we ordered 50 and they billed us for 500?
(with apologies to
Wal-Mart)" Granted that SAP doesn't like short ship or substitutions
... but what exactly are
you giving data sync credit for fixing?
