Hi Kathy --

Generally speaking, the PO ACK is triggered once the PO has been successfully booked and scheduled. Most are interested in their schedule date. There are always exceptions to the rule. At one company, they would trigger an 855 after several days because of some legal deadlines in the contract, even if product had not been scheduled. Later, they abandoned this approach & just triggered it after the entire order was booked. Newbies are often concerned that all PO's are not acknowledged, but if the PO fails (ie pricing issues, or unknown part number), there needs to be manual intervention anyway.

Most ERP systems such as SAP and Oracle have processes for EDI that can be configured and utilized by you.
Your ERP provider may already have a solution for you. Although, it still might require some customization.

Another approach is to ask some of your stragetic partners for guidelines and analyze their requirements.

Hope this helps,
Susan

Subject: Outbound 855 Setup Question - Never Used Before

Hi All,

I have never worked with the Outbound 855. Of course we received
Inbound 850 POs, but in the past we have only sent 997s back.

Is the 855 usually generated AFTER the order has been created or
before?

I guess I am trying to determine what data I need to use in order to
determine how best to send back the most accurate information.

Kathy
