Here's my 2 cents worth: > Have any new solutions to this problem emerged in the last 4 years? I would say no (unless you want to count UCCnet/GS1, which gets into areas beyond just order processing). What has happened is some technologies that were around 4 years ago have gained wider adoption.
>Did XML or any of the other new technologies ever live up to the hype? No, neither XMl nor any of the other new technologies have lived up to their hype (yet). What did you expect? ;^) > Has anyone persuaded their customers to use a web interface and accept double data entry? I don't think so, but I think you're asking the question from the wrong perspective. Most suppliers have little leverage over customers. It is the customers who are pushing suppliers. Several major buyers (at least in retail) have successfully pushed most or all of their suppliers onto EDI by mandating they at least use a "web-EDI" interface.
