Actually, I don't think that's correct either, though that was a bit before my time in X12. The component data element separator has always been part of the ISA segment, even before X12 had any composite data structures. I think the only thing that changed around that period is that X12.6 went from saying that the element and component data element separators *may* be the same to saying that they *must not* be the same.
