Travis Not to prolong the discussion.. but....
What do they expect Transportation to do with the rfid tags placed on product? What additional information will be provided by scanning the tags? Good example. Major consumer products manufacturer shipping freight to one of the chains. Shipper loads the trailer with pallet loads of product. Carrier moves trailer from shipper to consignee. Carrier drops trailer in lot. Consignee unloads. Carrier will never even open the trailer. Shippers already put a unique bar code label on small package shipments. Carrier scans at shipper location, origin terminal (unload of inbound truck (trailer), load of outbound trailer), any intermediate terminals, destination terminal (unload and load), and final delivery. LTL does something similar with a pro label with bar code. Why is it a blind spot? The carrier can already provide shipment status information. But if the shipper does not provide the manifest/BOL data electronically, the carrier can't return the package level detail electronically.
