The group may find it interesting to read Gandhiji’s views on Swadeshi,
which in spirit is more ‘local’ than ‘made in my country’.

For the benefit of readers, “Swadeshi” is a Hindi word. “Desh = Country”,
“Swadesh = My country” and therefore “Swadeshi = Of my country”. Swadeshi
movement was very powerful event leading to independence of India from
British rule.

Here is an extract from Gandhiji’s book. You can find it on Internet at
http://www.mkgandhi.org/momgandhi/chap87.htm

“Spirit Of Swadeshi
SWADESHI is that spirit in us which restricts us to the use and service of
our immediate surroundings to the exclusion of the more remote. Thus, as for
religion, in order to satisfy the requirements of the definition, I must
restrict myself to my ancestral religion. That is, the use of my immediate
religious surrounding. If I find it defective, I should serve it by purging
it of its defects.

In the domain of politics, I should make use of the indigenous institutions
and sere them by curing them of their proved defects. In that of economics I
should use only things that are produced by my immediate neighbours and
serve those industries by making them efficient and complete where they
might be found wanting. It is suggested that such Swadeshi, if reduced to
practice, will lead to the millennium.....”

Tell WTO. It’s amazing how Gandhiji could visualize the problems of
Globalization way back in 1906. The essence of his 'spirit of swadeshi' is
very interesting.

Cheers,

Ajay

Vijay,

With all respect, it is not sheer knowledge. It is greed. Our country has
set up so many requirements for corporations to hire skilled workers, it
costs thousands in insurance for the company in case somebody types too much
on their keyboard that their hands begin to hurt, then the government will
let them quit their job and still receive disability pay. This is one
example among thousands. I'll bet your firms in India do not face that kind
of expense. Therefore, greedy corporations in the US avoid the expense of
US employees and instead outsource offshore. Nestlé S.A. is one of those
companies. Instead of fixing the problems in their US IS group, they cut
the number of employees drastically, and outsourced. With Nestlé there is
no off-shore, because they are everywhere. But instead of supporting the
economies that support them, they cut jobs and sent them where there is
cheap labor, including the job that I had filled.

As for shear knowledge, if that is true, why do you call yourself a freshie?
People with knowledge and experience are here (US) aplenty. It is corporate
greed, not knowledge, that is sending jobs from our shores.

Thank you for your invitation. I intend to come to India, but not for an IT
job.

Art Douglas

Art,I don't agree with your opinion .I would like to invite you, to come
and work in India. Here, companies will Pay you good Bucks and expenses are
less. But its not like that, you reach here and a Job is waiting for you,
just come and fight for it.If you deserve, all yours. Regarding the matter
of Outsourcing,I think Big Cooperates, are not coming here for Fun or to
Entertain us or any where in the World. Its just shear Knowledge that
matters the most either its India or its US. Hope you agree with my
Opinion. Regards, Vijay
