Hi Susan --
Following is a list of EDI Vendors from EDI partners. Some of the
other suggestions already given to you are great as well. If you
clarified your business requirements we could help you more. FYI, I've
implemented 4 different EDI products from scratch, and have been
involved in several evaluation teams for both initial translator
purchase and/or outsourcing. I don't recommend the same product for
everyone.
1). Are you (or will you be) a high volume transaction shop (i.e. more
than 6,000 transactions per day)?
How many transactions per day are you expecting?
2). Are you looking for a van, translator or to outsource?
3). Looking for full blown integration or "rip & read"?
4). Do you have specific requirements for the environment? Is a PC
based product OK, or must it be UNIX?
5). Budget (entry level solution or full blown product with all the
bells & whistles).
6). Encryption requirements?
7). Use VAN or be your own VAN?
8). AS2 requirements?
9) What is the role of the vendor (implementor, VAN, translator)?
FYI, I'm a partner with Softshare, but I would need to understand what
you are trying to accomplish before recommending any product. Feel
free to call me with questions.
Regards,
Susan

Become a Bar Code Troubleshooter
Who do you call in your company when you are having trouble with bar
codes and labeling? It really doesn't fit into any department. It's
not really IS, or sales or logistics. I don't remember studying it in
school. It's an area that doesn't get a lot of attention. At a recent
American Apparel and Footwear Association meeting we had a session about
EDI 856 Ship Notices and compliance labeling. One individual spoke
about a $200,000 charge for unreadable bar code labels. When asked how
many companies in the room had experienced some sort of problem with bar
code labels this year, virtually every hand shot up. When asked how
many worked for companies who had someone on staff that could help
trouble-shoot bar code problems, out of a 170 people, not one single
hand was raised. So if you are looking for a way to make yourself more
valuable to your company, as unexciting as it may sound, you future
might be in Automatic Identification and Data Capture (old fashioned bar
codes).

When the application and accompanying documents, payer list, and annual
and site visit fees are received, the Commission reviews the application
to determine Candidate status. Utilizing the Self-Assessment Guidelines
and Report, the applicant prepares their Self-Assessment Report. A Site
Evaluator makes the Site Visit(s). The Commission then reviews the Site
Evaluator's findings. If no deficiencies are found, the Commission
votes to grant Accreditation status. If deficiencies are found, a copy

HIPAA Claims Attachments NPRM Comment Period Ending ... Maybe
As of a week ago, CMS continues to consider the possibility of a Claims
Attachment NPRM public comment period extension. If they grant one,
they've not yet 'officially' determined how long it will be; nor how
soon we'll be notified. It could be anytime: up to or even after the
present 11/22/2005 closing date. Other than continuing to prepare what
comments we have time for, all we can do at this time is watch the
Federal Register -- and perhaps the Office of Management and Budget for
an earlier indication that an extension Notice is in process.
Requests for further information on obtaining the claims attachments
NPRM, the technical approach for electronic claims attachments it
incorporates, the NPRM public comment period, and/or how to request an

Regulation for Health Care Claim Attachments
On June 3rd the HIPAA proposed regulation for health care claim
attachments took its next step through internal clearance before being
published in the federal register for its 60 day public comment period
which could begin this September. This proposed rule will include
transactions from both X12 and HL7 who collaboratively developed the
capability to exchange health care claim attachments. Be ready for the
comment period and learn about these transactions and their respective
implementation guides, the LOINC which are the codes used by payers to
codify the requests for additional information and the information
providers will send to the payer and how HL7 documentation is
structured. This class will help you prepare for your gap and impact
analysis for your implementation of these important transactions. Be
