Paul, Since the cost of most 1SYNC service providers is based on the number of GTINS you submit, your choice of vendors really depends on how many products and how may packaging levels you have for each product. Each product/packaging level = 1 GTIN.
It also depends on which GS1 data pool (eg. 1SYNC) you choose to use. 1SYNC uses certified service providers to submit your data for you to their data pool. These third-party providers must submit their products to extensive and costly certification processes to be certified to transmit your data to the 1SYNC data pool. Other data pools, like Agentrics, provide their own data transport tools at no additional charge and certify third-party data transport tools themselves at no charge to the provider of the tools So, there is no cost for the Agentrics tools and the cost structure for the third-party tool providers is much lower and therefore the cost of their tools tends to be less. The number of GTINs affects both the cost of the service and the type of transport tool you choose to transport your data to the data pool. With most 1SYNC service providers, the higher the number of GTINs, the higher the cost. If you have only a few GTINs and if the information in their data attributes seldom changes, then manually entering data into a spreadsheet may be tolerable to you. If you have a large number of GTINs and/or if the information changes often, then you will want to either expand your Products database to include all of the data attributes required by GS1 and by your Trading Partners, or you will want to install a Product Information Management System (PIMS). Using a PIMS system, you will import the required information that is in your Products database into the PIMS database and add to the PIMS database that information that is required but not in your Products database. Then the data in your PIMS database can be published to your GS1 data pool. As you can see, choosing a GS1 data pool and, if necessary, a data transport service provider, can be a complex process.
