What is a matter of 'some concern' to me is that my faith in the the new
ownership may be tested early.
I started thinking (again) about licensing an authoring system. SO.... I moseys
on down to the IBM product web site to try to figure
out what this would cost.
Nowhere could I find some kind of 'part number' to describe what I wanted
(basic authoring system: type designer, map designer,
database desginer, runtime with the 'basic' adapters). I did notice IBM has a
price list available on line, so I figgered I might be
able to scope out what I wanted from that....
Wrong-O. The published price list is as confusing as the product page is
uninformative. (Call me a hopeless purist, but IMNSHO a
price list should not confuse someone who has owned and operated his own
software business for 15+ years).
So I says to myself, "I know what to do. I'll just call IBM and ask for 'sales'
and I *know* IBM is famous for quality sales
people.
OK, fine, I go through a couple of automated attendant menus and reach a polite
sales rep. When I explained exactly what I was
interested in, she told me she really needed to get a technical sales rep to
handle the call. "Fine," says I, adding, "This isn't
life and death and no need to keep you on the phone. Just have that rep give me
a call when available/ready."
This was last Thursday, AM. No callback Thursday. No callback Friday.
Wait a minute: Where am I? IBM missing a golden sales opportunity? Both
Watson Sr. and Jr. must be spinning in their graves!!
