OK--Constants can be used to put specific data into your mapping without coming
from a database field. I know you say you have the constants setup correctly in
the segment, but let me go through it anyhow.

Here are the steps:
Go to your 'Select Message Class Function' panel. Put a 2 in front of
'Constants'--ENTER

Working with the 'Edit Message Class Constants' panel, in the OPT column insert
an L, in the KEY column put a key name (perhaps AMOUNT), the length will be
determined by the translator, then put in your constant--AMT*KC*0 (If this is
exactly what you want ??!!)-- ENTER

Go back to the 'Select Message Class Function' panel--put a 2 before the
'Segment map;element map'---ENTER

Put a 5 before the AMT segment---ENTER

Put a 2 before the AMOUNT element or the exact element where you want this
constant--ENTER

Go to the last field on this panel (Message Class Element Map Details 1) and
insert C0--this will pull up all the constants for your message classes (814)
that have been created. Select the AMT*KC*0--ENTER

This data will be placed into the fields on the panel, then just confirm---ENTER

Please try this Christopher--just because. If you still can't populate the AMT
segment, then call Extol.

Good Luck!!!
Rae Ann

Thanks for the response. I'll try to explain in a little more detail: The
original maps are working in production perfectly, and no fields or formats
have changed in the development files. I have an 814 which I'm required to add
a constant "AMT*KC*0;" and an 867 I need to add a constant "PSA*93*NO ICAP
TAG*0;". I have the segments setup correctly in each map, but I can't
determine how to force them to appear in the outbound transactions if they
aren't mapped to a database field. - Chris

Need a little more information Christopher. Were these outbound running fine
with fields attached? Were the formats changed? The length of your constants?
How did you define the constants? Does code refer to changing data in the map
or actual interface coding?

If you need a fast answer, please call the Extol help line--these people are
great at fixing problems. Plus they also have the capability to get on your
system to see what is going on.

Otherwise answering these questions along with giving me/us more detailed
information will give me/us direction to help you.

Thanks,

Rae Ann

Subject: [EDI-L] <TECH> Forcing EXTOL to generate a segment

I've been tasked with updating a few of our maps with some "constant"
segments. We are using the v5.5 of the Extol Integrator on the iSeries.
I've been able to code the REF segments and have them display, but my
AMT and PSA segments refuse to appear in my map. All of these segments
contain elements with constants instead of field mappings. Any change
someone could explain to me what I'm doing wrong?

  Thanks - Chris
