Actually, no.  SOX has nothing to do with it, but it's a common
misconception regarding SOX.

Sarbanes-Oxley 404 is not about quarrantining data, it's about control and
traceability so that if you DO alter data, there's a darn good reason why
and an unimpeachable way of determining who did what and when they did it.

Let's face it.  Your group has an "emergency" ID, does it not?  (J&J calls
it a "Firecall", Merrill Lynch when I was there used to call it a "SWAT"
ID.)  Something that has ultimate authority to go anywhere and do anything.


And access is permitted only with a good explanation, at least a manager's
okay about it, and the activity is reviewed daily by your CSO who reports to
the VP.   All those controls satisfy SOX 404 requirements because even
someone as dim as Sarbanes or Oxley knows that 'fecal matter happens' and
sometimes you just gotta get to the data.   But when you do; you'll have
some 'splainin' to do.
