There are business processes supported by the 834 and 835 that are > not necessarily the business processes mandated under HIPAA. > Consequently, whatever your client is doing may not have to be HIPAA > transaction and code set compliant, but I doubt that. Just to clarify this point... Under the 1996 HIPAA's implementing regulations (45 CFR Parts 160, 162 August 2000).. the 'user' does not specify the business process, the regulations do. If the business transaction meets the tests spelled out in the regulations, it becomes a 'covered transaction' and any electronic transactions effecting those functions must use the standard transaction (or a "health care clearinghouse" (service bureau)). That said, I have a tough time imagining any business transaction utilizing an 834 or 835 which would NOT meet the test for 'covered transaction' and therefore become subject to the use of the CMS-mandatated implementations. And as long we are talking about the '835' Healthcare Payment/Remittance Advice document...... Tal Systems' Provider Payment Partner(tm) System at http:///www.providerpaymentpartner.com was one of only two completely 'standlone' applications for the processing of the X12N X091A1 '835' document which were available at the time of the ORIGINAL implementation 'deadline' (October 2001). For that matter, it may still be one of the only two such available applications. Five-plus years of Real World Use by providers from New Hampshire to California shows its stability, reliability and utility. (I would have said "Maine to California" because it sounds better, but the truth is we have no users in Maine). (Yet). Providers can obtain a fully-functional time-limited evaluation version of the PPPS simply by following the instructions at the web site; and as noted on the "Contact Us" page, OEM/VAR and/or service bureau inquiries are welcome.
