Interesting comments considering you are with WPC.

As I'm sure you are aware, WPC has ceased providing at no charge the
CMS-mandated (by the HIPAA) X12N Implementation guides. I'd sure hate to be
a new healthcare provider who has to shell out $175.00 each to download the
four or five PDF files required to develop a reasonably complete electronic
interface to my payers.. or even a longtime provider who has finally decided
to 'get with the program' and eschew the processing of dead trees.

However, this is much more a criticism of CMS/DHHS than of WPC (although
it may well turn out to be a 'doh' moment for me, read on....).

If Uncle Sam wants to mandate compliance with a specific implementation,
seems to me Uncle Sam needs to make the specifics of that implementation
available to all without the need to shell out a substantial sum to a third
party (DISA/X12N or WPC).

Now, for that 'doh' moment? I spent about forty minutes a couple of weeks
ago on the CMS web site looking for the free downloads for the mandated
implementations. No joy... all I got were referrals to the WPC web site, at
which I would acquire the high privilege and distinct honor of forking out
$175.00 per. If someone posts a link to the official CMS site where one may
download the mandated implementation details at no additional cost, I am
prepared to eat my words and even apologize if indicated.
