vics and ucs are subsets of x12. versions below 4010 will require you
to use the correct standards, especially since the enveloping may be
different. 4010 and above you can cheat and use the x12 standards,
although you may find qualifiers that are missing in x12 that exist in
the others.

if your vendor does not provide what you need ... it's time to look
elsewhere. there are lots of alternatives.
