Let's face it, most EDI jobs are in companies where one person comprises the entire team. This means, when the EDI Guy/Gal leaves, it is up to the IT manager to figure out what s/he did and what the requirements of the next person will be. The manager may not even realize the importance of experience in their industry segment. The exception is the healthcare billing industry, where there seems to be a real fixation on having at least 15 years of HIPPA (sic) experience. They just spent half their budget to purchase GIS and train the incumbent, and that training just walked out the door for a 20% bump. Their focus is on replacing the lost technical skill, and they ignore the knowledge of the firm's business.

I continue to be amazed that a post this long and so detailed about operating system and application software experience required says precisely ZERO about the industry, documents or type of trading partners to be handled. I would think "banking" or "retail" or "manufacturing" or something like that would appear somewhere. And we wonder why we get software which does not meet Real World Requirements? Michael C.
