read the "what's new in this release" docs on the sterling support on demand
website for all the versions between 3.1 and 4.2.  Also get the docs titled
"retiring services and adapters"

For instance, all your 3.x FTP services and adapters will need to be
replaced with the new stuff and they behave differently than the old ones so
extensive testing is required.

I don't know what services and adapters you use in your business so you
should read those documents yourself
