Thank you both for your input.  I thought something must be askew but
you never know what you'll run into in EDI.  I changed the sender and
receiver IDs to protect the innocent :-).

Mike hit the nail on the head with his comment. Something is gone 
wrong since the first data element within the UCM segment is used to 
identify the message reference number and not clear text such as 
"Please look at the ...". I also noted that the Sender ID and 
Recipient ID in the UCI segment are identical, rather odd.
